Basic photography lessons

Right, well ive been meaning to do it for a while but today I have started formulating some basic lessons in my head. The idea is to give some basic information to those that are new to photography and dont know anything!

I think it will be fun and may even make a nice little resource. The first lesson will be coming soon so what this space.......

Your perfect lens choice

Lenses.....the things drive me mad. Getting the right balance in lens choice is a very personal thing and can impact so heavily on how you take photographs.

We all see pictures of the paparazzi with 20 cameras slung around there necks, each one sporting a lens which is worth the equivalent of a small country's GDP. Personally I dont work like that. I keep one main body, a reserve body in the bag, and I do the unthinkable. I actually.........change lenses when I need to.

Smell-o-rama

Isnt it a shame we cant capture scents with our photographs? Perhaps one day we will but for now, so much is lost from an image due to having no scent. Its amazing what that one sense does for us, for our memories and how it heightens our experiences. Heres to the day when my Canon SLR can record smell as well as make coffee!

Hope your all well!

Motivation, motivation and....motivation

Ok, so im sitting here looking at my screen typing this blog. To the right of my keyboard are various objects from my daily life. To the left of the keyboard is, my camera. Not shocking in itself i know, however there is something amiss. My camera has a thin layer of dust on it.

I know I know, its shamefull. I havent picked it up in a nearly two weeks. This happens to me every year. I run out of motivation, i get caught up in other areas of my self employed work etc.

Meta Data, Photographs and the twisting of history

Ive been looking around on the web a bit today, initially it started by finding a song i loved, wondering who did the photography for the artist etc. anyway long story short I somehow ended up looking at pictures of celbrities.

The long and short of it was this....

The images i saw, were all presented in a way which deliberately changed the meaning of the photos. By this i mean that the image was as a single frame capable of showing something other than it actually depicted.

Wedding Photography, Overexposed!

Does it ever suprise any of you out there, both fellow photographers and members of the public, that so many photographers use wedding shots which are horribly over exposed?

You know the tactic.....a photographer takes a shot and thinks "thats a nice shot that is....shame the brides dress is totally blown out, ahhhhh I KNOW!" and then the photographer desaturates the image (in non techy speak that means make it mono ie. black and white). The idea here is simple. The photographer hopes that by making the image mono instead of colour, no one will notice!
